Former BitTorrent Executive Says It is Impossible for TRON to Integrate BitTorrent’s Token

TRON recently announced that a company it is affiliated with will be integrating the BitTorrent Token (BTT) through Binance Launchpad. The TRC-10 token based on TRON protocol is described to be a tool utilised to achieve a decentralized internet. The token is also boasted to be capable of enabling the mass adoption of blockchain and empowering content creators by granting them access to tools and features related to the distributing of content.

Apparently, not many people believed in the potential or the usage of the token. A whitepaper was published after there were suspicions and discussions on whether the token is truly as powerful as it is promoted to be. Additionally, an announcement was made on the issue stating that BTT would “create a token-based economy around the usage of networking, bandwidth, and storage.”

On 11 January 2019, a former chief officer of strategy at BitTorrent named Simon Morris was interviewed by blockchain news website Breaker regarding the launching of the token. He stated that the TRON blockchain could never handle the transaction volume required to tokenize BitTorrent.

Morris said that the tokenizing of BitTorrent would enable prioritized download queues and automated auctions which would result in a 40% speed increment in the torrent network. However, hundreds of transactions per second (TPS) were required by his team just to get the system started. He described that TRON’s exaggerated promotion of it having 10,000 (TPS) was nonsense and TRON’s system would be “melt[ed]” and “destroy9[ed]” if the token is integrated onto its blockchain.

Morris, having worked closely with TRON’s head Justin Sun, described Sun to be a talented person from a marketing perspective, but does not have a “technical bone”. He also described TRON to be a “marketing machine layered on a very thin veneer of technology.” Morris further voiced out his concerns over the approach TRON is taking, which he described to be the “Trumpian approach”, where a lie is used to cover another lie.

Morris suspected that the new TRON-based system promoted by the company may increase the efficiency of the BitTorrent network as expected. However, the fact that the system will be “TRON-based” may be fake and actually have its transactions managed by a centralized server. He noted that the transformation of the sharing network into a centralized platform could make it less reliable.
