On May 2 in New York, Elon Musk arrives for the 2022 Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The Gala raises money for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute with the theme “In America: An Anthology of Fashion.”

Elon Musk tweeted on Friday, Dogecoin, a popular crypto meme token, will soon be accepted by SpaceX, causing the currency’s price to spike as they observe other cryptocurrencies fall.

“Tesla merch can be bought with Doge, soon SpaceX merch too,” Musk tweeted.

As of Saturday midday, products on the SpaceX website include “occupy Mars” T-shirts and spacesuit onesies, all still listed in dollars.

When asked by a Twitter user if Starlink internet subscriptions could be paid with the dog meme-themed currency, Musk replied, “Maybe one day.”

SpaceX’s “DOGE-1 Mission to the Moon,” is the first space mission funded completely by cryptocurrency. It is due to launch in June 2022, according to spacetv.net.

Dogecoin traded higher on Friday afternoon after Musk’s morning announcement, as other popular cryptocurrencies fell. MarketWatch reported Dogecoin traded 4% higher, while Bitcoin fell 3% and Ethereum fell 8%,
